PPQ Dungeness Island Vietnamese Cuisine

2332 Clement St
San Francisco, CA 94121

Occasion: After a day out in the sun for a birthday in sausalito, some drunken commodity, we ended up here for dinner. YAY. We had two tables and ordered the menu for 10 per table. 3.27.10

Deep Fried Calamari
The asian kind of calamari where you don't get pieces that look like little octopuses. Squeeze some lemon juice and its delicious. I'd much rather prefer the american kind of calamari, but this will do too.
Papaya Salad with Shrimp
It's very unfortunate that I don't know how to appreciate or enjoy this dish as much as alot of other people. One thing for sure is that it's definitely very refreshing. Loved that we drizzled some fish sauce over it. I really don't know how to compare this dish with other restaurants because I think they all taste the same, kind of bland.
Smoky Pork
Very flavorful and very tender. It was good, but not it did not outshine some of the other dishes we had. I must admit their pork is pretty good compared to a lot of other vietnamese restaurant.
Garlic noodles
I like garlic. I like noodles. But i LOVE the combination of both. I absolutely love coming here for these noodles. Whenever I think of garlic noodles, I think of PPQ because it's the best.

Five Spices Chicken
Very similar in taste as the pork, but also like the pork...it didn't over power some of the other dishes. I still enjoyed it though.

Braised String Bean
With all this buttery and fried stuff, we needed something more healthy; string beans. Ilike the sauce they used to make it. Yum.

Peppercorn Crab
My favorite of the two types of crab. I just think its more flavorful. Also, I liked how it was dry, unlike the buttery roasted crabs. I like this one better because it had more of spicy kick to it and because it was deep fried, I sucked the flavorful batter off of the shell. YUM.
2 Roasted Buttery Crab
Delicious, but not as good as the peppercorn crab. Very buttery and very garlicy, which means messy too. Oh well it's crab, you're supposed to eat with your hands and be a little messy.

Steamed Shitake Sea Bass
My favorite dish. It was cooked to perfection. Everything from the presentation to the flavor to the tenderness of it. I don't know what they put it in, but it was sweet and savory and the chunks of meat seriously melted in my mouth. If it wasn't because there were so many other dishes on the table waiting for me to eat, I would have eaten more of this. I highly recommend this dish!

Sizzling Beef( Bo Nuong Vi )
Grilled marinated steak on a hot iron platter
This was also very good. Kind of reminded me of marinated korean shortrib. It was sweet and it was delicious. Not one of my favorites, but still worth the try.
Deep Fried Banana with Ice Cream
By the time the dessert came, I was stuffed. But I still managed to stuff a piece of fried banana with the mango ice cream down. It was good, but would have been better if I was not as stuffed. This is always a great dessert. I don't like bananas, but I do like it fried as a dessert.
