Occasion: Another belated bday dinner with my bigbig and friends. Party of 5. 3.19.10

Escargot
Snail in a puff pastry. Not bad, the buttery puff pastry took the flavor of the snail away. It didn't even seem like I was eating snails. I thought it was pretty good.

French Onion Soup
Yelp reviewers were right. French onion soup was really good. I loved biting into the gooey cheese. It was more sweet than it was savory. I've never really been a fan of french onion soup, but I must admit I enjoyed it a lot. Didn't seem too oniony, but still good. I am a fan.


Tartare de Thon Rouge
ahi tuna, goat cheese, quail egg,garlic croutons
Presentation was all there, but it lacked in taste. I like my tuna tar tar very flavorful. I guess the ingredients they used to make it is different from what I am usually used to . I just thought it was weird to have bits of goat cheese chunks in this dish. I'm not saying it wasn't good, but the flavor of the cheese definitely overpowered the taste of everything else. I am not sure if I am a fan. I'm glad I tried it, but I might not order it again. Not saying it wasn't good, just not what I'm used to.
Rillette du Périgord
pork free, shredded all-natural duck meat, duck fat seasoned & cooked confit style
I know what pate is made of and I must admit that I enjoy eating it. I don't really remember much of this particular pate dish. I know i didn't dislike it, but nothing about it stood out either. I remember someone really liking it though.
Steak Tartar
raw flank steak, cornichons, capers, egg yolk, mustard, parsley, croutons, shallots
I loved how the waiter prepared it in front of us. I thought it was pretty good especially with the crouton pieces. The mustard definitely added a kick to the flavor of it. I've never had steak tartar prepared this way. In the end I still enjoyed this. I enjoyed it more than I enjoyed the tuna tartar.
Chevre Salad
cabecou, mesclun salad, nuts, tomatoes,diced apples
Too bad this was served way after too many other things were served. I like having salads in the beginning of my meal because it's a refreshing starter. Simple but good. I enjoyed the apples in the salad, as it added a bit of sweetness to the salad. It also came with bread and what seemed like goat cheese on it. Everyone else kind of just left the cheese there. Do people not like cheese or what? Well the cheese was a bit rich, especially the way they served it in a big chunk.
Pommes Frites
french fries, sauce piquante aux herbes
Love french fries and the aoili sauce it came with for dipping. I love fries with any type of aoli sauce. How can you go wrong?
Agneau
roasted lamb sirloin with garlic,bread crumbs and emergo beans
Not what I ordered but I got to try a piece of it. It was nice and tender and very flavorful. The meat was not gamey at all. Because it's meat, it's very filling. I'm glad I didn't order it because I definitely would not have finished it. It was good, but not as good as my dish.
Ahi
seared ahi tuna, onion confit, bacon, soy green peppercorn sauce
Did not like the shredded cheese on top, but I loved my fish. Onions were sweet and seemed to be caramelized, there were bacon bits in there which added more flavor to it. Fish was cooked to my liking. For all the fish lovers, I would definitely recommend giving it a try.
Truite aux Amandes
pan-seared trout, toasted almonds, white mushrooms, lemon butter sauce, steamed potatoes and green beans
The meat was super tender and was a delight to bite into. It had a very fishy taste, which balanced out well withthe mushrooms and the almonds. Loved the crunch of the almond as well as the steamed potatoes. Pace yourself with the potatoes as they can fill you up really fast.
Crème Coconut
Cafe Claude's house flan
I didn't like it that much. It was super sweet.

Crème Brulée made with 'bourbon' vanilla bean
Also very sweet. The caramelized sugar was a bit on the thick side. I liked this more than I liked the flan.
