On top: Mauna Kea's Secret - White chocolate ice cream swirled with rasberry sorbet and loaded with chocolate chips and chocolate brownies.

YUM!!! Sooo good and so refreshing!

Hula Grill

2435 Kaanapali Pkwy
Lahaina, HI 96761

Occasion: We finally, after our 3rd attempt made it to ziplining. After an adventurous morning of ziplining we headed here for lunch. 05.08.11

ISLAND FISH AND CHIPS
Heineken beer battered Mahi-mahi, lilikoi dipping sauce
FISH SANDWICH
5 oz. grilled fresh Hawaiian fish, 9-grain bun, jalapeƱo aioli, and mac nut slaw
Flavor of the fish was a little bit on the bland side. I also would have liked it better if there was less bun because it seemed to have made the burger a bit more dry than I would have liked it.  I usually do not like cole slaw, but thought it was pretty decent here.
HAWAIIAN CEVICHE
Fresh fish in lime, coconut milk, Maui onion,
cucumber, and chili with avocado
Love the availability of fresh fish on the island.  We all very much enjoyed their ceviche.  Their avocado was amazing. Chips were just ok.

Four Seasons resort Maui of Wailea

3900 Wailea Alanui
Maui, HI 96753

Occasion: Bo and Ray's Wedding 05.07.11

hor dourevs: shrimp cocktails and oysters
I love seafood and I can't complain.  Refreshing and tasty!
Lobster corn dogs
So good!! I've never had one of those before and I loved it!
Pina Colada with my hor dourves
Pork Rib Sliders
I'm surprised it worked.  The meat wasn't as dry as I'd thought it would be.  It was a nice filler for us!  Probably my least favorite of all the hor dourves.
_________________________________________________________________

After drinks and hor dourves was the reception inside the one of their ballrooms

Crab cake
Perfect appetizer. The crust was deep fried to the perfect golden brown, with not too much batter.  There was a generous amount of crab chunks.  The crab cake was nice and moist without using too much mayonnaise, which I liked.
Salad
Very flavorful and delicious.  There were crumbles of feta cheese and diced apple or pear, which definitely added a crunch to the texture of the dish.  It was a good salad.
Surf and Turf
There was steak and fish.  I love variety and was glad that there was both meat and fish.  I was very surprised with the generous portions on this plate.  We were so full, most of us ladies could barely finish.  I am a fish/seafood person, so I finished that first, leaving the meat unfinished.
Wedding cake
Strawberry shortcake plated with fruits. Loved it! The variety of fresh fruits were delicious and made the dessert so much better.  They were sweet and absolutely juicy.

Flavor: Big Daddy (small)
Mango, Strawberry and Passionfruit
After browsing through the flavors, I knew I had to have this one because it has all my favorite flavors in it.  Mango was the best!

Pancake from another brunch place.. Pancakes were fluffy and the macadamia nuts added texture.

Sansei Seafood Restaurant & Sushi Bar

1881 S Kihei Rd
Kihei, HI 96753

Occasion:  After yet another canceled ziplining appointment we went to get souvenirs and then off to karaoke.  We grabbed dinner at Sansei.  If we could have waited another (which we could not), we could have gotten to get some of their sushi at 50% off.  We were hungry and did not want to wait, so we just ordered from the regular menu. Jenny, Ella and I decided to share the CHEF’S OMAKASE TASTING MENU FOR TWO between the 3 of us, while Diana ordered a salad on her own. 05.06.11

IMG_4423

Seared Foie Gras Nigiri Sushi
Lightly seared and served with caramelized sweet Maui onions, ripe mango and topped with a rich unagi glaze drizzle
This was not on the tasting menu, but sounded really intersting so we decided to get it.  I love mango salsa over almost anything.  The combination of the rich foie gras with the sweet tangy mango flavor really complemented each other and brought out both the flavors. So good!
IMG_4426
Sansei Special Roll
Spicy crab, cilantro and fresh veggies, dusted with furikake and served with sweet Thai chili sauce

I'm not big on spicy nor am I a big fan of imitation crab in my rolls, but it was actually not too bad especially with the sweet thai chili sauce!
IMG_4430

Rainbow Roll
California roll wrapped with slices of ahi, salmon and avocado
Not part of the Chef's tasting menu.  We thought that the tasting menu for two would not be enough between 3 people, but we were wrong. We were so stuffed after!

IMG_4431
Edamame
Nice little snack to have between meals.
IMG_4435
Sansei’s Mango Crab Salad Roll
Sansei’s Asian crab salad, ripe mango, Kula greens and crunchy peanuts wrapped in a mamenori handroll and served with sweet Thai chili vinaigrette
Nothing reallly special with this roll.  There was way too much lettuce per roll.  They can cut out some of that and put something tastier in it.
IMG_4439

Ahi Tataki Salad
Fresh Hawaiian ahi tossed with Maui onions, wakame and kaiware sprouts in a spicy ponzu vinaigrette
Diana's meal. Looked delicious!
IMG_4440
Sansei’s Asian Shrimp Cake
Crusted with crispy Chinese noodles, served over ginger lime chili butter and cilantro pesto
Loved the crispy chinese noodles with it.  That definitely adds texture to the dish.  Because the noodles were deep fried, it also adds to the flavor of the shrimp cake.  It was one of my favorite dishes of the night.
IMG_4441
Japanese Calamari Salad
Calamari fritte tossed in spicy kochujang vinaigrette over Kula greens in a crispy won ton basket
I love squid prepared in almost any and every way.  No complaints.  Loved it.
IMG_4444
Panko Crusted Ahi Sashimi Sushi Roll
Sashimi grade Hawaiian ahi, arugula and spinach wrapped into a sushi roll, panko-crusted, flash-fried and served with Sansei’s mild soy wasabi butter sauce
The panko crust definitely adds texture to the roll.  It's simple, but good.  The soy wasabi butter sauce definitely adds flavor to the roll.
IMG_4445
Sansei’s Lobster & Blue Crab Ravioli
Stuffed with sweet lobster, blue crab and shrimp in a rich truffle butter sauce
Sounded so interesting.  Love lobster meat, love crab meat...in truffle butter sauce. MmmmM.  It was so good. Only complaint was that there weren't enough.  There was only like 2-3 pieces in there.
IMG_4448
Matsuhisa Style Miso Butterfish
Tender butterfish marinated and roasted in sake and sweet miso
By the time this last dish came out. We were all so stuffed already.  I'm all about fish so I was looking forward to trying this.  The fish was so soft and buttery and seriously melted inmy mouth.  The miso sauce added a bit of sweetness to it, which I thought was really good.

808 Bistro

2511 S Kihei Rd
Kihei, HI 96753

Occasion: Brunch! Decided to have brunch before heading to our ziplining adventure(that has already been rescheduled once). Due to the weather conditions, it got rescheduled again, but at least we had a delicious first meal to start off our day. 05.06.11

MANGO CHUTNEY PORK CHOPSServed with Eggs, Hashbrowns & Toast
Jenny and I split this and the Mahi mahi because we like variety.
I would never think to order pork chops, it's just not something I like to order, but the waitress recommended it and so did fellow yelpers.  I was definitely not disappointed and glad I stepped out of my comfort zone.  There was a little bit of heat to the mango chutney that added a little bit of pizazz to the dish.  It wasn't too heavy and the meat was pretty juicy.
IMG_4282
FOCACCIA EGG SANDWICH
Fresh Basil, Tomato, Avocado, Egg & Cheese
Choice of Meat, Served with Hashbrowns
Ella's sandwich. It looked delicious and tasted really good with her choice of Portuguese sausage.  I got to try a little bite of it and it was really good. The focaccia had a very fluffy texture. The veggies made it a more refreshing sandwich than it did a heavy hearty sandwich. Overall a really good breakfast sandwich.
IMG_4283
FRESH MAHI MAHIServed with Eggs, Hashbrowns & Toast
I just had to get the mahi mahi.  It was good because I like fish, but it was nothing extraordinary.  Nice light breakfast! IMG_4284
BANANA BREAD FRENCH TOAST
We all shared this! I love ending my meal with something sweet and french toast was just the perfect way to end our meal.  We decided to just get one slice to share since we all got our own individual meals, which in my opinion was a good idea.  I love banana bread so when I saw that it was a banana bread french toast, I knew I had to get it.  The hint of banana flavor definitely made it unique and I thought it was good.  The bread was a bit more dense and not fluffy like most french toasts, but it was good! Overall, I enjoyed it!

Cafe O'Lei Kihei

2439 S Kihei Rd
Kihei, HI 96753

Occasion: After hanging out at the beach and chilling at our hotel pool, we had to find a place to have dinner.  We used yelp to find a restaurant the 4 of us agreed on. 05.05.11

IMG_4244
Crabcakes
Our appetizer.  The sauce complemented the crab cakes really well.  Loved that there were generous chunks of crab with not too much mayo! Skin was fried to a nice golden crisp!
IMG_4245
Fish over rice
We just had to order some kind of fish there!
IMG_4257
We had to have a roll with avocado.yum!
IMG_4255
Baked roll
Per Ella's request.  She likes baked rolls with cooked fish over raw fish.
IMG_4259
Dessert
Some kind of strawberry cheesecake. YUM!!!

Overall, it was a decent meal.  Though we did wait quite a while for our food to come and the service was just alright...mediocre at best!

Kihei Caffe

1945 S Kihei Rd
Kihei, HI 96753

Occasion: Breakfast before we pick up Ella from the airport. 05.05.11

Juice
We're not big on coffee.  Love getting juice for breakfast. Not freshly squeezed, but refreshing!

Cinnamon Roll
Took one on the road.  Fluffy with the perfect amount of cinnamon.  Not too sweet, moist and perfect little snack to have around when we were hungry.

Banana nut French Toast
With any savory dish we order for breakfast/brunch, we always like to order something sweet.  It just seemed like the Hawaiian thing to order, banana nut french toast. Loved the crunchy texture the macadamia nut added to the french toast.

Loco Moco
Two eggs, fresh ground beef patty, rice and brown gravy
We replaced the regular rice with fried rice for an additional $2.00, which was totally worth it! It's such a filling first meal, but it was so good! It's definitely something the locals would recommend ordering.

Coconut's Fish Cafe

1279 S Kihei Rd
Kihei, HI 96753

Occasion: 1st dinner in Maui at a local spot in Kihei about a 7 minute drive from our hotel. 05.03.11

IMG_4152
Grilled local fish with brown rice
The owner suggested Mahi Mahi and Ono.  Both were delicious.  $13 for the amount of food they give you (two filets of fish, brown rice and a coleslaw salad) is so worth it.  Our dinner combined cost less than my lunch! So reasonably priced.
IMG_4153
Fish Tacos with mango salsa
I love fish everything, especially fish tacos.  The sweet tartness of the mango salsa complemented the fresh fish so well.  Though I'm not a big fan of flour tortilla, I devoured this one.  Also not a big fan of cole slaw, but this one was delicious and not too mayonnaisey.
Seafood Chowder
with New England base with Ono, Mahi Mahi and clams
Diana's dinner.  I got to try a spoonful of it and I thought it was pretty tasty. I'm a fan!!

Kumu Bar and Grill

3700 Wailea Alanui
Wailea, HI 96753

Occasion:  After arriving into Maui, picking up our car rental, driving to our hotel and settling in we were starving! We found the closest place to us...which was literally 100 feet from our hotel room. It was a bit on the pricier side, but so close and convenient. Pricey food that was just mediocre. 05.04.11

IMG_4078

Hula Girl
Mango, passionfruit, orange and guava juice blended with myer's light rum
It was delicious and did not taste alcoholic at all.  It was nice and tropical and just what I needed to cool myself off from the Hawaiian sun and to start our vacation off right.

IMG_4085
Fish Tacos
My plate
There's something about Hawaii that makes me want to eat fish tacos. I think the island and I think fresh fish! They were filling and helped heal my growling stomach!
