Ritual Coffee Roasters

Oxbow Public Market
Napa, California

Occasion: Coffee for the day off. 03.09.12

I am not a coffee person. I don't drink it on a daily basis, but on my days off, I like to sit back, relax and have some coffee with my meal.

Cappuccino
I love the foam art on this. <3 was in the air.

Intelligentsia Coffee & Tea - Millennium Park

53 E Randolph St.
Chicago, IL 60601
Occasion: In need of some coffee in the morning. We came in late late last night, so we needed some caffeine to keep us up for the day. 07.01.11

Left: Cappucino Right: soy latte
Starting our morning off right.  I really liked their coffee.  It's definitely a specialty kind of coffee.  It reminds me of Blue bottle coffee in San Francisco, but not as strong. This had a natural sweetness to it, where as blue bottle is more caffeinated.

Ritual Coffee Roasters

Oxbow Public Market
Napa, California

Occasion: Wine tasting and grubbing in Napa. 05.29.11

Cappucino
Needed some caffeine after about a 1.5 hour drive up to Napa. My first time ever having ritual's.  I thought it was pretty good, not too strong/ bitter and had a natural sweetness to it.  It reminds me of Blue bottle in San Francisco, but not as strong.

Blue Bottle

1 Ferry Building
San Francisco, CA 94111

Occasion: Saturday Farmer's Market. After waking up early to do the Lyon's street stairs, you're going to need one of these at 3pm.

Girbraltar
I really do enjoy drinking this.  It's not too much for me. I'm not much of a coffee drinker and when I do, I need something that will work right away.  Girbarltar is like a cappuccino in in a shot form! I like how there is not too much foam nor too much milk.  Not on the menu when you go to blue bottle, so you need to specifically try this and know an item off your list.  Listed as28. A Gibraltar at Blue Bottle coffee.

Philz Coffee

748 Van Ness Avenue
San Francisco, CA 94102

Occasion: After Swan Oyster Depot, I wanted to give this place a try, since my sister had been raving about how great their coffee is. 12.27.10

I got some kind of medium roast...forgot the exact name now, but the barista recommended this for me.
I am still an amateur coffee drinker, so I don't really know how to differentiate between most coffee, though I can tell those cheap 711/McDonalds coffee from that of something with coffee beans of higher grade.  In my opinion, I didn't think it was any different from something like blue bottle coffee.  Yes, I must admit it was very aromatic, but other than that I can't tell.  I like how each cup is made specific for you though and the fact that they brew it fresh right in front of you.

Blue Bottle Coffee Co

1 Ferry Building
San Francisco, CA 94111

Occasion: Saturday Farmer's Market!

New Orleans Iced Coffee and a Gibraltar
I was tired and felt like getting some coffee and I wanted to knock off another item on the BIG EAT SF: 28. A Gibraltar at Blue Bottle Coffee. I really do taste the difference between other coffees and blue bottle coffees, and I must admit blue bottle's the best. It's the strongest and the most aromatic. My gibraltar was really strong, and I had to add some sugar in it. I really liked how it was a mix between a latte and a cappucino. Loved the top layer of foam, which is rare because I think its disgusting usually. I guess it just depends who makes it, because making foam is a skill...it needs to be the right consistency. I'm impressed not only by blue bottle's coffee but the artistic skills in the workers who make cute little fancy designs on the coffee and the way their employees know how to make good foam.

Blue Bottle Coffee

1 Ferry Building
San Francisco, CA 94111

Occasion: Saturday farmer's market outing.

people waiting in line for their coffees. It was a crazy long line!

The guy who prepared my coffee with a supposedly top notch machine.

Single Latte
I've always heard good things about blue bottle coffee, so I decided to wait in line with all the coffee drinkers and give it a try. I'm not a coffee drinker and I don't need it everyday. I probably don't know how to decipher between the different kinds of coffee, but one thing I knew for sure was that this was good coffee. It didn't taste like all the other coffees I've had. Some I had tasted were more watered down, others were overly bitter. The foam was perfect and the coffee was smooth, good, delicious. Don't really remember if it kept me awake, not that I needed the coffee that morning. It was very beautifully prepared, which made it much more enjoyable. I'd definitely drink this coffee again.
