Coupa Cafe- Palo Alto

538 Ramona St
Palo Alto, CA 94301

Occasion: Seemed like 3pm was a popular hour for tea, so Tea Time became filled with a lot more people.  We migrated our catch up session over to Coupa Cafe for some desserts.  12.05.11

Tres Leche
My pledgemom was raving about how great it was.  And it really was amazing.  It was a little bit on the sweet side and a few bites will be good enough, so make sure you share it.  It's some kind of milk based dessert with sponge cake.  It's soaked in  three kinds of milk: evaporated, condensed and heavy cream. (Thanks for the educating me Sandy) It was so creamy, so decadent, but so delicious.  Thanks for introducing it to me.  I'm a big fan!

Tea Time

542 Ramona St
Palo Alto, CA 94301

Occasion: Catch up session with Christine and Sandy with high tea! 12.05.11

Plate of two tea sandwiches and tea
My choice of tea was a pot of the pearl jasmine tea.  I think I'm just really asian and enjoy the more asian flavored tea leaves, less of the fusion types of tea.  As for my two choices of sandwiches I opted for the smoked salmon with cream cheese topped with caviar and the bay shrimp salad topped with avocado.  They were tiny, but delicious.  I liked both sandwiches, but I'd have to say I like the smoked salmon more.  I was actually a bit disappointed with their variety of brunch stuff.  At the tea houses I've been to in the city.  There are choices that include sandwiches, crumpets and scones.  I'm a type of girl who likes trying a variety of things, so knowing that I was limited was disappointing.  At least the food was pretty decent.

Coconuts Caribbean Restaurant and Bar

642 Ramona Street
Palo Alto, CA 94301

Occasion: Dinner for two. I don't usually venture out of the city, so it's definitely out of my comfort zone. But the food was so worth the drive. ** Pics from Camera Phone**

BBQ Chicken and Half Ribs
Tamarind BBQ Sauce, slow cooked and seasoned with their own spice blend
Chicken and ribs were very tender, but the sauce it was cooked in was a bit spicy. Loved having it with the brown rice and the seasoned veggies.  My second time having caribbean and it definitely left a memorable experience.  It was delicious!
Shrimp Creole
Gulf White Shrimp roasted in Sofrito Sauce, tomato with Plantain tostones
DELICIOUS! loved the plantains! You can definitely taste the spices in the sauce.

Red Mango

429 University Ave
Palo Alto, CA 94301

Occasion: Sunday afternoon snack. We were driving past palo alto and decided to get a yogurt fix.

Plain yogurt with captain crunch, mochi, mango and granola.
It's just not the same as Cultive's. The yogurt wasn't as tart nor as sweet as I like it. The consistency of the yogurt did not seem as thick. It was good, but not great. I heard Yul Kwon from survivor owns this place.

Sprinkles

393 Stanford Shopping Center
Palo Alto, CA 94304

Occasion: Birthday cupcakes my psis' Amy gave to me <3>

All my favorite flavors in one box.
White and black, red velvet, strawberry and chocolate marshmallow
Yes I know they look a little bit unappetizing, but they were still very delicious! My favorite would be the red velvet then strawberry, then the black and white and then the marshmallow. I brought it to work to share with all the coworkers. We seriously devoured them. =]

Sprinkles

393 Stanford Shopping Center
Palo Alto, CA 94304

Occasion: Thursday Treats!!

Carrot, Red Velvet, Black and White, Vanilla Milk Chocolate

Black and White
Belgian dark chocolate cake with vanilla frosting
Looked really rich at first, but it wasn't too bad for a sweet lover like me. I like the balance of black and white. Frosting was surprisingly not too sweet. It was really good! I was very happy with this as the first cupcake we tried.

Vanilla Milk Chocolate
Madagascar bourbon vanilla cake with fudgy milk chocolate cream cheese frosting.

Another balance of white and black, but this one was white cake and chocolate frosting. I don't know what it is with sprinkles frosting, but they are sure generous. Again, I liked the balance of both white and black. Based on the looks, the frosting looks really rich. I mean it is rich, but not as fudgy as I'd thought it would be. I guess the cream cheese makes it subtler and less rich in flavor.

Red Velvet
I love red velvet cupcakes. I have a love and hate relationship with red velvets from sprinkles. It's really tasty, don't get me wrong. But sometimes it's too sweet for my liking and other times its perfect. This was my favorite out of the four cupcakes in the box.
