Opa Market

2401 Post St
San Francisco, CA 94115

Occasion: Lunch! May 2012! For awhile we were always eating this for lunch.  Close by, reasonably priced with huge portions.

Chicken and rice
Huge piece of chicken with saffron rice and a delicious cole slaw salad
Definitely a generous portioned meal with fresh and flavorful ingredients. I like that the cole slaw is light with vinaigrette dressing.  I'm not into that heavy creamy dressing, so this was a plus for me.  You get a huge peice of chicken breast with either a wing or a drumstick.  With a portion size this big, you can share this with one other person and still be able to satisfy your hunger cravings.

Kabab and Curry

1498 Isabella St
Santa Clara, CA 95050

Occasion: Thursday night dinner.  Too much Korean food, so we decided to try some Indian food. 05.17.12

Chicken Tikka Masala
Definitely a kick to this dish.  Super spicy, but at the same time, it went really well with the garlic nan we got.  Their level of spice is something completely different than what I'm used to. I know I broke a sweat eating this.
Chicken Kadai
I'm not sure what exactly it was made with, but it was even more unbearable than my chicken tikka masala dish.  Due to the spice level, I only had once piece of chicken, though the meat was super tender.  The flavors were definitely more appealing than the chicken tikka masala.  The spices are very apparent and it wakes you up.
Garlic Nan
I love anything glutton and with garlic.  To balance off he spiciness of the Indian dishes, we had to get an order of nan.  They were flavorful, fluffy and addictive.  I love dipping it into the sauce, but it's still wonderful without it.  This is a must whenever I'm eating Indian food.

Mochicream

Mitsuwa Marketplace
675 Saratoga Ave

San Jose, CA 95129

Occasion: We were in the Japanese Market getting Japanese Ramen and thought might as well give this place a try. After a 9 hour class and dinner, we found out his little cousins were coming over, so we had to stock up on some goodies for everyone to snack on for the UFC fight. 05/05/12

Mochi filled with cream. Definitely different and unique. Mango was a favorite of ours.  Must be eaten within 24 hours after purchase.

Tobang

1052 Kiely Blvd
Santa Clara, CA 95051

Occasion: Thursday night dinner! Korean food is Henry's favorite cuisine and since there's so much of it in Santa Clara, I guess we just had to.  04.26.12

Soup for a cold day
It was a perfect night for soup.  It was some kind of beef bone soup with rice cake and noodles.  Simple, warm and super filling.
Pancake, Kalbi, Tofu Soondubu
Complimentary pancake with a yelp check in.  Everything seems to taste better when it's free.  The Beef was absolutely flavorful and the stew...I wish they had an egg for us to crack in it.  It was decently priced, delicious and filling.

Dosa on Fillmore

1700 Fillmore St
San Francisco, CA 94115

Occasion: Indian fair for lunch.  We had the luxury to enjoy a full lunch and then some.  Sometimes, it's nice to be able to have a sit down lunch to enjoy the food that's presented in front of you. 04.26.12

Mango Lassi
The perfect mango yogurt drink to cool your palate down from all the Indian spice.  It's thick, creamy and super refreshing.  Definitely one of my favorite drinks of all time.  Now I'll just have to learn to make it.
Sardines
They're bigger than anchovies, but smaller than a mackerel.  These things are so freaking delicious.  they're salty, spicy meaty yet boney.  It's okay to eat the bones though.  If you're a fan of salty small fish, I'd definitely recommend it.
Samosas
How can you go wrong with these deep fried goodies filled with curry, potato chunks and other flavorful vegetables.  This is definitely a vegetarian friendly dish.  I don't know about you, but anything filled with chunks of potatoes, goes well with me.

Below are the three different DOSAs we ordered. Not exactly sure what we ordered, but they come in these different sizes, shapes and forms, depending on which dosa you choose.  They're all flavorful and absolutely spicy, but no worries, it comes with some yogurt dip on the side, to cool you down.  If you're a fan of spicy food, you should definitely give this place a try.

B Street and Vine

320 S B St
San Mateo, CA 94401

Occasion: Class got canceled so we decided to head here for some dinner. 04/25/12

We got the bruschetta and their soup of the day

Soup of the day: Tomato basil soup
It was nice and warm for the cold rainy day.  Sweet with savory and a nice creamy texture.  Not my best, but still satisfying.

Bruschetta
For $12 you get to choose 4 different kinds of bruschetta. What a deal right? We chose a Lox: with salmon, cream cheese, capers and chives.  Prosciutto with figs and cheese. Apple, brie and walnuts and an eggplant with feta cheese.  All of which were delicious.  I just love the variety and the option for us to mix and match based on our own personal likings.  I've heard great things of this place and was glad to have finally been able to try it out.  I've recommended this place to some friends and family; all of whom are fans of this place! I can't wait to come back for more! It's a great place for lunch, dinner or even a snack!

Honey Pig

I've tried this place on a previous trip down to LA a few years ago...and it's so freaking delicious.Check out my previous post here!  It's one of my favorite Korean places in Socal and I wish they had it up north! It's definitely a place to try when you're down in the LA area. So good!!

Nothing Bundt Cakes

Sunnyvale, California

Occasion: After a 9 hour class, we decided to pick some up since the kids were coming over. Munched on this while watching the UFC fight...It was Mayweather vs. I don't know who. Haha

We got the variety box which consisted of red velvet, chocolate, raspberry white chocolate and lemon and chocolate marble.  Great for parties and get togethers.  They're so cute and nicely presented!  My favorite flavor is the raspberry white chocolate.  Super moist and you can finish it in four bites.  If you love bundt cakes, then here's something you'll like.

Cafe Bunn Mi

417 Clement St
San Francisco, CA 94118

Occasion: Picked up some Vietnamese sandwiches for after work/ before class snack.  They're so freaking delicious. Both were flavorful, filling and satisfied our hungry stomachs.  Reasonably priced, but cash only.  I am definitely a fan. 04.2012

Town Hall

342 Howard St
San Francisco, CA 94105

Occasion: Celebrating Phil's Birthday! 04.28.12

IMG_3242 Dark and Stormy's for everyone
My choice of drink, but they made it super strong here.
IMG_3249 Complimentary Hush Puppies
Because we had to wait over an hour to get seated, they served this to us while we were waiting. It had a cornmeal texture and was kind of dry, but I guess it helped with holding down our hunger.IMG_3255 Tuna tartar
cornmeal fried green tomatoes, garlic chips, tobasco green onion vinaigrette

IMG_3258 BBQ Shrimp with Worcestershire sauce and garlic herb toast

IMG_3266 Cornmeal Fried Oysters
with Herbsaint spinach puree, Hobbs bacon and preserved lemon
IMG_3270
House smoked St. Louis ribs
Texas Jack BBQ sauce, corn muffin and Stevie's coleslaw
Tender meat with a delicious tangy coleslaw and a moist corn muffin that was so good that I could have had another one.
IMG_3275
Bacon wrapped red trout
with red quinoa, asparagus, rhubarb, english peas, pine nuts and meyer lemon
My dish, that I regret getting.  It's kind of a soul food type restaurant and I should have stuck to those types of dishes.  My fish was definitely not what I had expected and was quite disappointing.
IMG_3273 Buttermilk fried chicken
ham hock collard greens, smashed potatoes with bacon gravy
Moist and juicy chicken with some tasty mashed potatoes.  I loved this dish and wish I had gotten this instead of the fish.  This dish was the highlight of all the entrees I tried. A great place for fried chicken.

Apartment warming

Occasion: Jenny and AK's apartment warming party! 04.28.12  Some pinterest inspired recipes.

 Scallop BLT
Panfried scallops used as the buns, roasted sliced tomatoes, blanched bok choy leaves. Jenny used yogurt, dried dill and something else for the mayo component.  It was a biteful of deliciousness. Very easy to make once you get the hang of it and seriously a bite full of flavor that leaves you wanting more.  Perfect for a little appetizer before dinners or if you're just serving hor dourves. YUM!
Avocado Deviled eggs
Zesty twist to your typical deviled eggs.  It's not as creamy as I had expected but it was nice to see something unique and different. Almost reminded me of Dr. Suess' Green eggs and ham.

Lasagna Cups
Super cute, easy to make and absolutely delicious!
Spray your cupcake pan with some baking spray. Place a wonton wrapper in each cup and then fill it with marinara sauce, whatever cheeses you'd like (we used: ricotta, mozzarella and Parmesan), ground beef topped with basil.  You could add another layer of wonton wrapper for a thicker denser cup.  All up to your personal preference.
