R & G Lounge

631 Kearny St
San Francisco, CA 94108

Occasion: Celebrating Amy's Bday! 10.23.10. Two big tables with Banquet Menu C.

Appetizer Sampler
BBQ Pork, Jellyfish, salmon avocado egg rolls, beef brisket
The egg rolls really impressed me. I usually am not fond of Chinese egg rolls, but these were pretty amazing. It almost reminded me of Cheesecake factory's avocado egg rolls, which are my favorite. I'm very particular with bbq pork and this one passed the test.  It was tender, not dry and tasted fresh.  I love jelly fish and it satisfied. Beef brisket wasn't bad either.

Braised Shark Fin Soup with shredded chicken
Shark fin is considered to be luxury food.  It was good and helped warm me up from the cold rainy weather

Salt and Pepper Crab
Amazing! They are well known for their salt and pepper crab, especially after Anthony Bourdain's visit here.  Yes it's as good as they say it is. Freaking scrumptious! I love the crispy outter fried layer; so full of flavor it makes your mouth dance!  Their crabs are huge and each piece has a generous amount of meat. Hands down one of the best crabs I've ever had.  I just love coming here for their crab!

Sauteed steak cubes with scallops and beans in an X.O. sauceTraditional chinese dish with a modern spice to it.  Absolutely addicting and super flavorful. One of my favorites of the night.  The X.O. sauce adds a kick to the flavor, making this dish more unque than other restaurants.

Baked Black Cod
This was my second favorite after the salt and pepper crab.  First of all, I love love love fish! Secondly, this dish was prepared to perfection, well at least I think so.  The meat in the middle was soft and tender, while the outsides had a baked crisp to it and glazed with some sweet teriyaki like sauce.  It was amazing and absolutely addicting.  Best eaten when it's warm and fresh.  I really could not get enough of this.
Baked maine lobster in a supreme broth
It just didn't make the cut!! I'm sorry to say, but it was nasty.  Flavor wasn't there and there wasn't much meat.  This dish just didn't execute for me. It was definitely presentable, but as for taste, there's a lot of work to be done.
Black mushrooms with mustard greens
Very nicely prepared, but too bad I've never been a big fan of mustard greens.  I really liked the mushrooms though.  It's definitely not a dish I'd choose on my own.

Roasted Chicken
I thought it was pretty good. It wasn't dry like the way most restaurants prepare it.  The meat was juicy and the sauce was good. Thumbs up to this dish.
Longevity noodles with abalone sauce
It was mediocre.  It wasn't saucy enough for my liking.  I thought it was on the bland side.  But with every birthday you should have these noodles, which represents a long life.
