Anchor & Hope

83 Minna Street
San Francisco, CA 94105

Occasion: Light dinner before MOMA 4.30.10. I just had to advertise those angels on horsebacks. Came here twice that night. Once before the MOMA and once after MOMA.

Angels on Horseback
2nd time having these goodies. Like I've said before... I don't normally like bacon nor do I normally like cooked oysters, but together they're exploding with yummilicious flavors.

Garlic Fries with a Tarragon Aoli Sauce
Always a great little appetizer! Must eat it with the tarragon aoli sauce!

Lobster Sandwich
When I was browsing through the menu, it just really appealed to me. YUM! I wasn't too fond of the cole slaw, but then again..when am i ever. Too bad my throat was scratchy...otherwise i would have enjoyed the home made sea salt kettle chips more. The sandwich was decent. I loved the generous chunks of crab. There seemed to be some chopped bits of celery and overall it had a semi sweet flavor to it. I wasn't too fond of the toasted bread. I don't like it when it's too toasted where it scratches the inside of your mouth. Fortunately, I was able to avoid that. This was good, but the lobster sandwich from Woodhouse Fish and Co was way better!!!
Happy hour $1 Oysters
The tastiest, cleanest, most presentable $1 happy hour oysters ever. I've gone to many placest who serve oysters for $1. This is by far the best, not only for the taste and presentation but also the environment. There were no chunks of shell that were left behind from the shucking. These oysters were nice, cold and big. I liked dipping it into the vinaigrette sauce over the cocktail sauce. Very refreshing and very enjoyable.

Sea urchin
Warm sea urchin in the shell with dungeness crab and lemon beurre blanc
When I came in earlier in the evening the guy next to me was eating this and it really appealed to me. I thought to myself,"Too bad we've already placed our order, otherwise, I'd get this too." So we came back later the same night with a couple of friends so that they could grab a bite. I decided that I wanted to get this. This was amazing. In my opinion, I thought it was better than those "Angels on horsebacks." Presentation is definitely there because it's what caught my attention. I loved the slimy texture and the strong tasty flavor of the sea urchin. The chunks of dungeness crab added to the amazingness of the dish. It was in what seemed like a clam chowder broth. Who would have ever thought for this little dish to have an explosion of flavors in your mouth. It was an absolute delight. LOVE LOVE LOVED IT!
