Occasion: Overdue catch up session and dinner with the big bro=] 5.6.10

Bone Marrow with bacon and carmelized onions
When we ordered this we were totally expecting it to come with a bone, but after placing the order, our waitress informed us that it would be in a mousse form. It was good, but it didn't really taste like bone marrow, nor did it have the texture of it. It reminded me of a cheese mousse. Don't get me wrong, it was good and filled with flavor, especially when eaten with the bacon, it just wasn't what we expected it to be.

Crispy pig’s ear, pickled jalapeno, tomatillo & radish
Sounds weird, but tasted soo good. Pickled jalapeno was sweet and sour and mildly spicy, just good enough for me to handle. The pig's ear was crispy on the outside and had a chewy insides. Very tasty and balanced well with the pickled jalapeno. I would definitely recommend trying it.
Rabbit & truffle cappelletti ‘en consomme’, california asparagus
I couldn't tell that it was rabbit meat in the ravioli, tasted like ground pork or something. You can taste the pasta was fresh made by the crisp of the noodle when you bite into it. Flavor of the dish was pretty good. This dish tasted pretty healthy and I really enjoyed it.
Lamb shoulder, asparagus, sweet peppers & garlic puree
The lamb shoulder was very tender, the asparagus was grilled and tasty, the sweet peppers definitely added a kick to the flavor and the garlic puree was very subtle. The dish was decent, but I thought the flavor of the lamb was just a little too salty. The dish would have been a lot better if it was less salty.

Ti Couz

3108 16th St
San Francisco, CA 94103

Occasion: Dinner with Diana on Cinco de Mayo.

Buckwheat crepe with ground sausage, tomotoes, mushrooms and cheese
The healthiest crepe I have ever had and I loved it. I'm used to going to places like Crepevine, Crepeville (in davis) and Crepe's a GOGO where the crepes are much more greasy and way more filling. I really liked how it wasn't too greasy! Also had a cup of French cider with it. Both on BIG EAT SF 2009 and 2010 #88. Buckwheat Crepe and French Cider at Ti Couz

Occasion: Dinner and catchup with the big sis 5.4.10!

Lobster and white truffle mac and cheese
Loved the bread crumbs that were sprinkled on top. Definitely added to the texture of this dish and made eating it that much more enjoyable. There were generous chunks of lobster in it. I liked the shell pasta they used for this. I'm not a big fan of macroni and I'm glad they didn't use it. I'm not a mac and cheese person because it's usually very rich, but not here. I thought it was pretty good.

Tuna tartar
It had a very asian taste to it, maybe it was the chopped ginger bits. It went really well with the chips. It was very addicting appetizer. I liked how it was refreshing and healthier than the mac and cheese. It helped in making me feel better that we had ordered the mac and cheese.

Scallop Divers
I was very surprised to see FIVE scallops on the plate when it came out because it usually comes in like 3 and at most 4. Not only did the presentation of this dish appealed, so did the flavors. I loved the potatoe hash they had under each scallop. The potatoe hash had a wonderful golden brown cripsy outside, which made it a delight to eat with the tender scallops. I'm not sure what sauce was used, but that too was amazing. Overall, the dish was very tasty!

Halibut with a mushroom risotto
The fish was very tasty, but the risotto was a little disappointing. Fish was full of flavor and very tender. It wasn't overcooked, where it would taste dry. Risotto lacked in flavor and I didn't even taste any mushrooms. It wasn't a bad dish, but it wasn't great either.

That takes the cake

2271 Union St
San Francisco, CA 94123
Occasion: After work sweet tooth fix!
Opposites Attract (on the left)
Chocolate buttermilk cake with chocolate chips topped with peanut butter buttercream and a mini peanut butter cup.
This was delicious! I really wasn't expecting to like it at all. I love peanut butter, but I've never really enjoyed many peanut butter flavored things. This was definitely an exception. I was caught off guard with chocolate chips in the cupcakes as I bit into it. What I like best about this cupcake is that the peanut butter flavor is really subtle. It's just a light peanut butter buttercream, which complimented the flavor of the chocolate cupcake instead of overpowering the flavor of it.
Red Velvet (on the right)
I like trying red velvets from cupcake shops and comparing it to each other. I thought the red velvet cupcakes here were delicious. It had a very home made taste to it. Love how their frosting was not too sweet and not too overpowering in flavor. Though the cupcake itself could have been a bit moist, I still enjoyed this a lot.

Shabu House

5158 Geary Blvd
San Francisco, CA 94118

Occasion: Sunday night dinner after sailing 5.2.10.

Beef Carpaccio
Beef was nice and thin, but the sauce was to salty. Presentation was nice and adding mushrooms definitely puts a spin on this dish. It was nice to try something different, but I would have much rather had the vietnamese beef carpaccio with onions, cilantro and crushed peanuts with their fish sauce dressing.

Ordered a Large Kobe Beef Shabu
Loved how it came wiht plenty of vegetables to balance out all that meat.

Green Tea and red bean ice cream
It was just ok. I've had better green tea ice cream. First time having red bean. It's not bad but I don't think I'll be ordering this flavor from any restaurant anytime soon.
