Wayfare Tavern

558 Sacramento St
San Francisco, CA 94111

Occasion: Phil's Early Birthday Dinner Celebration! 04.23.11

Escargot
Basically a fancier way to say snails.  It was drenched in some yummy pesto sauce.  Some are scared to eat these creatures, but I'm definitely not.  It has a chewy/ rubbery texture to it.  Not all restaurants serve it this way, but I had to slurp the meat out of the shell.

Deviled Jidori Eggs
curried yolks, crisp shallots, vadouvan, pickled carrot, cilantro
I love eggs so I definitely enjoyed this.  The egg yolk was perfectly yellow and perfectly shaped.  I can never make it look so perfect when I do this at home myself.  Anyhow, I definitely enjoyed having these little treats as an appetizer.
Oysters on the half shell
You can never go wrong with oysters as an appetizer! I love it best with their vinaigrette sauce.
Steak Tartare
fresh chopped filet, French mustard dressing, egg yolk, garlic toasted popovers
I love tartars and I like trying it from different restaurants.  The mustard dressing definitely adds a good kick to it and is better than wasabi (as I have seen it used at some restaurants).  I thought it was a nice little appetizer and perfect for amount for the 7 of us to share.
Chicken Liver Mousse
Sounds gross, but I thought it was pretty good.  Too bad no one else seemed to like this.  It was very smooth and reminded me of pate, which I love!  Spread it on some toast with some jam and it's delicious.  They gave a very generous portion of the mousse.  I hate it when there's not enough bread/toast to match what it's supposed to be eaten with.
BAKED MACARONI & CHEESE
Jack cheese, garlic bread crumbs, chive & smoked olive oil
I like how they used shell pasta.  It was a decent sized and tasting of mac and cheese!
Fried Chicken
I'm not a big fried chicken person, but I thought the skin of the chicken was pretty good.  It was fried to a golden crisp and the skin was not too thick.  The chicken was nice and moist and I loved the flavors of the herbs used.  Squeeze some lemon on top and you have some pretty darn good fried chicken.

WAYFARE BURGER “LE GRAND"
grass-fed proprietary grind, Mt. Tam cheese, roasted onion, smoked bacon, brioche
with sunny side up Petaluma egg
For an additional $2 you can add a fried egg on top. Oh hell yes. I love eggs! Too bad this burger was so big it made it hard to split.  I thought it was good, but nothing too special.  Since I'm not big on bacon. The bacon made the burger way too overwhelming in taste for me.  The patty itself was really thick, which was hard for me to get a bit of everything in one bite.  Restaurants have to realize that there are girl foodies out there too! Hmph!
