Egg Tarts
Hands down the best egg tarts I have ever had. I've been coming to this place since I was a little kid. The lines are always long here. My dad would buy it for us everytime he walked passed and saw no line. I loved coming home to find a warm egg tart waiting for me. It's seriously my favorite chinese pastry and I LOVE LOVE LOVE it. Seriously, everyone needs to give this place a try, I guarantee that it will not disappoint unless you are not a fan of eggs. It's so good it made it onto the 2o10 Big Eat SF: 100 things you must eat and drink before you die. #61

R & G Lounge

631 Kearny Street
San Francisco, CA 94108

Occasion: In celebration of a bday!

Salt and Pepper Crab
Absolutely delicious! One of the best tasting crabs in the city. Not all Chinese restaurants can compare in the way R&G prepares their CRAB! MUST TRY! Definitely pricier than most Chinese restaurants, but it's totally worth it for the quality.
Steamed eggs with clams
Growing up, I've had steamed eggs at home, but it doesn't compare to R&G's steamed eggs. Texture was perfect; as soft as soft tofu. It slipped right out of the spoon and melted in my mouth. Flavor was awesome and the clams added a kick to it. Never thought a dish with this combination would be so good.

Walnut Prawn
Not your typical authentic Chinese dish, but you're eating with 4/5 ABC's. Definitely a dish that is ordered by ABC's. VERY good. Walnuts were sweet, crunchy and delightful. Prawns were nice and big and not smothered with too much mayo. I like!

Braised E-fu noodles
Very traditional dish for birthday celebrations, especially those who are older. These noodles represent longevity, which is why this dish is usually ordered at birthdays. It was a good filler in between meals. It was good, but not great. It lacked meat and reminded me of a vegetarian dish.
Three Treasures with Black bean sauce
had eggplants, stuffed tofu, and pepper
Very popular chinese stirfry! I love ordering this dish. One of my favorite dishes to order whenever I am at a Chinese restaurant because I love tofu and I love eggplants. This place did not fail on this dish at all. I was SOOO pleased. Eggplants were fresh and cooked to perfection, you can just tell when you bite into it. Tofu was stuffed with shrimp...DELICIOUS! and there were peppers, which I am not a fan of. But it's ok, I always eat with people who would be more than happy to eat whatever is left over.

Chicken with ginger and garlic sauce
To my surprise, very good. I usually like to pick at all the other food but the chicken. I usually just get once piece, but nope, not this time. I reached for a second and maybe have even reached for a third piece. Why? because I love their ginger garlic sauce and the meat was juicy and very tender. Loved it!
Minced garlic with snowpeas
We needed to have at least one veggie dish. It was good. Considering that I almost always order this dish at chinese restaurants and having parents who like to eat heathy (lots of veggies) I've tried this at many, many many restaurants. I must admit that this is one of the restaurants who prepares it perfectly. Some places the veggie is too salty, too sweet, too mushy, to garlic or the texture would be off. But this place made me like veggies even more. YAY

Picaro

3120 16th St
(at Valencia St)
San Francisco, CA 94103

Occasion: Sarah is in need of some TLC dinner =] Yup that was the title of our email thread! This dates back to February 20th. Yes I still remember=]

Complimentary bread with dipping sauce
I kid you not, but this was the best part of the meal. We must have asked for what seemed like 10 baskets of bread and an additional big bowl fo the dipping sauce. I have no idea what was in that sauce, but it was absolutely delicious. We all LOVED it. Seriously the best starter EVER! I tried asking the waitress what it was made of and all she could tell me was that it was a vegetarian dip. I would seriously go back to this restaurant just for their free bread with dipping sauce. Once again...AMAZING!

Sangria
We had just missed it for $2.50 glass or $10 pitcher of sangria, but we still got a pitcher. Two glasses of this and I was buzzin'! My glass was more on the sweet side=]
Fried calamari
Can't really go wrong with calamari especially if you have a special mayo filled dipping sauce. Portion size could totally have been a bit bigger. Still satisfied tho!
Tortilla de Patata
Their deep fried potatoes with their garlic aoli was one of the best tapas we ordered. It was delicious! I love potatoes and I can definitely say that compared to cha cha cha's, Picaro has better deep fried potatoes. Must be the aoli sauce?
Mussels
Portion size was kind of small. Loved the bits of chopped tomatoes and the vinaigrette sauce it was cooked in. It wasn't too bad! I would definitely say it was one of our more favored dishes.
Grilled Clams
with garlic,parsley and olive oil
Again, nothing really spectacular about this dish. There were only about 10 clams in there, if not less. Anyways, wish there were more clams for what we paid for. The sauce was used for bread dipping, which I thought was pretty darn good.
Paella de Mariscos
Seafood paella with clams, mussels, shrimps and calamari
This was actually my first time ordering paella. It was hella hyped up for me, so i really was expecting something wonderful. When I took my first bite of this...it was not as wonderful as I had hoped for it to be. I was definitely disappointed. Maybe it's me because I've never this before, or maybe it was the place. I really didnt' think it was all that. This was the only thing that came in a great portion. Please note that it does take extra time for the restaurant to prepare for paellas so please order right away.
