Little Lucca's

724 El Camino Real
South San Francisco, CA 94080

Occasion: Late sunday lunch! I was so happy it was open!

Lucca's Chipotle Bird
Chipotle Turkey, Bacon, Cheddar Cheese, Vidalia onion dressing and roasted red peppers
Loved the dutch crunch bread! I could have done without the bacon and cheddar cheese. I like my sandwiches more simple and less complicated. This sandwich was huge and it was hard for me to fit everything into one bite! Loved the roasted red peppers though.

Look how big the sandwich is. For less than $7 it could feed me for a good three meals, two if I'm super hungry

Fire Roasted Steak Cesarfire roasted NY sirloin
with carmelized onions, melted cheese and cesar dressing
This to me, is definitely a guy's sandwich. So much meat. Didn't get to try it because I was not in the steak mode, but I've totally got to try it the next time.
Pastrami on Rye
Dave's pastrami sandwich with cheese. LOOOKS SO good

Roy's Hawaiian Fusion

575 Mission St.
San Francisco, CA 94105

Occasion: Diana's Work Holiday Party

Roy’s Canoe Appetizer
Szechwan Baby Back Pork Ribs, Ahi Tuna Poke, Lobster Potstickers, Teppanyaki Shrimp, Tempura Tuna Sushi
We shared this among our half of the table. It was delicious. I love Tuna poke, tartar, whatever you call it. If its raw tuna cut in cubes mixed with deliciousness. I like it. I tried one of the lobster potstickers and they were amazing!!! I think this dish gives a good variety and it seems to only be good for two, not 5. haha.
Lobster California Roll Cucumber Avocado & Tobikko
Very beautifully presented. I thought the rolls were delicious. I love sushi, especially sushi with lobster in it, which made the roll a little less boring. Great blend of colors as well.
Hawaiian Crunch Roll
Tempura Tiger Shrimp, Avocado, Shiso and Curry Aioli
YUMMY! love shrimp tempura, love avocado. It was delicious.
California Roll
Lump Crab, Avocado, Cucumber, Masago, Sesame Seeds
Nothing all that special. Just a plain old california roll to me.
Sunrise at Haleakala
Tuna, Hamachi, Salmon, Avocado & Asparagus Tempura Roll, Togarashi Butter
DELICIOUSNESS! Everything I love in sushi all in one bite. I've actually never had asparagus in sushi before, so i really wanted to try it. I liked the crunch the asparagus gave the sushi. Combination of all my favorite raw fish with my all time favorite avocado all of which could fit in my mouth. Loved it.
Maui Wowie Shrimp Salad
Capers, Sweet Onions, Crumbled Feta Cheese & Caper Lime Emulsion
Very refreshing. I love crumbled feta on anything, well not anything, but it was so good. There were pieces of shrimps and tomatoes, which added the flavor. Great starter before my meal.

ROY’S CLASSIC TRIO
Hawaiian Style Misoyaki Butterfish
Hibachi Grilled Salmon
Roy’s Original Blackened Island Ahi

Hawaiian Style Misoyaki Butterfish
Chinese Style “Sizzling” Soy Vinaigrette
My favorite of the trio. The meat was soft and tender and the soy vinaigrette went perfectly with the fish. Crispy outside with super tender insides. Soy vinaigrette added a bit a sweet tangy flavor to compliment the fish.

Hibachi Grilled Salmon in Japanese Citrus Ponzu
I always eat salmon and I kind of wished it was another fish other than salmon, but to my surprise I enjoyed it. The meat was very tender and the ponzu sauce went well with it. I loved the cucumber slices they had with it, very citrusy to help balance the fishiness of the salmon.

Roy’s Original Blackened Island Ahi in Spicy Soy Mustard Butter
Loved the texture but hated the seasoning that went with ti. I love ahi tuna, but I did not enjoy the spicy soy mustard butter which reminded me of wasabi. I don't know why, but I've noticed that a lot of asian fusion restaurants like to flavor ahi tuna with a hint of wasabi-like flavor. Personally, I hate it! hate, hate hate. I did enjoy the way the fish was cooked, seared on the outside and a bit raw in the inside. yummy.

Grilled Filet Mignon & Seared Black Tiger Shrimp
Gruyere & Scallion Smothered Pee Wee Potatoes, Dungeness Crab Cream
Tried some of diana's entree. Shrimp was ginormous, juicey and full of flavor. Filet mignon cooked medium rare, nice and tender. From the little bit i tried, I thought it was excellent.
Kalua Pork Osso Bucco Kabocha Pumpkin Polenta, Bacon Tossed Brussel Sprouts, Pepita Golden Curry Mole
Tried a piece of this pork shank. The meat was very moist and tender. To my surprise, I actually liked it. Was not too fond of the brussel sprouts though. bleh

Chez Papa Resto

1401 18th St
(between Connecticut St & Missouri St)
San Francisco, CA 94107

Occasion: Fanny's Birthday Dinner!

Mushroom Ravioli
It definitely sounded better than it tasted. Honestly, I didn't think there was anything too special about it. I think the birthday girl really wanted to try it.

Mussels
This dish did me right. You can't really go wrong with mussels, of course unless you over or under season it. Fortunately, at chez papa, it did not fail me. I loved the combinations of herbs used. Portion was fair and the broth was enjoyable. We ended up dipping some of our complimetnary breads into the broth, which is what I usually do with mussels. I loved the mussel juice.
Roasted Bone Marrow
with Garlic Croutons, Fleur de Sel, Parsley and Shallot Salad
I've had bone marrow in vietnamese food, but i've never had it prepared at a French restaurant. It's definitely not something I'd eat on a regular basis, nor would it be something I'd want to order if I saw it on the menu. If it were not the suggestion of someone, I don't think I'd think twice to order it. Don't get me wrong, I love trying new things, but whatever it is has to sound good too. I'm glad there were 6 others to try it with me because I don't think I could have finished it all to myself. It had the texture of chicken fat and did not taste all that extraordinary. Nothing besides the presentation of it wowed me. I could have totally done without this dish, it didn't even fill my stomach. But I guess people order it for the taste, which I felt it was lacking in flavor. What do I know though? I'm not an expert at what bone marrows should taste like.
Snake River Kobe Beef Tartare
with Dijon Mustard, Capers, Shallots, Garlic, Toast Points
Delicious! I always like to order some type of tartare as an appetizer. I did some research before dinner and saw on yelp that this appetizer was a very popular choice. It was good! Full of flavor and went perfect with the bread they had. One of my favorites of the night! I would definitely recommend giving this appetizer a try, that is...if you like raw meat.
Sauteed Alaskan Black Cod
with Chanterelles, Melted Leeks, Black Truffle Emulsion
I like black cod, doesn't matter how it's cooked, i love it. This dish was delicious. Meat was tender and dip it in the truffle emulsion=yummy in my tummy! My favorite of the three fish dishes I tried.
Sauteed Mediterranean Sea Bass
with Fennel Two Ways, Orange Gastrique, Black Olive-Tangerine Vinaigrette
It tasted very fishy. If you're not a fan of fishiness, then I wouldn't recommend getting it. Overall, it wasn't bad,but I just wasn't up for it.
Grilled Arctic Char
with Napa Cabbage, Cauliflower, Caper Berries, Sherry Beurre Blanc
I thought the skin was just a tad bit overcooked, giving a bit of a burnt taste, but overall this was my favorite. I just didn't like the veggies it came with. Cauliflower, yuck. Brussel sprouts, egh. Fish= yay! Liked it...a LOT! =]
Liberty Farms Duck Breast
with Sunchokes, Swiss Chard, Kumquats, Sherry-Port Glaze

I'm not a fan of duck, maybe because I've only had it prepared in Chinese cuisine., which is usually 70% fat and 30% meat. But to my surprise, I tried a piece of it and I actually thought it was very delicious. The meat was lean and cooked to the perfect temperature leaving the meat very tender. Flavor was delicious. If I had duck prepared like this all the time, I might actually start liking it.

Pho Huynh Hiep 3 - Kevin's Noodle House

85 Southgate Ave
Daly City, CA 94015

Occasion: After a day of shopping, took a quick dinner break before we shopped some more!

Fried Shrimp Cakes
Delicious. Anything fried is good. I love the thin crispy skin. Dip it in some of its sweet nuc mum sauce and it's perfection. Tasty appetizer to start off the meal. Promise it will not disappoint, unless you hate fried foods and shrimp.

Pho Ga
Chicken Noodle Soup. Yum! For some reason this bowl of pho tasted extremely good. Maybe I was super hungry, but the broth was perfect and the noodles were nice and soft. It definitely hit the spot for me. I don't usually drink the soup because it's filled with msg, but I think the soup here is pretty good.

Sophie's Crepe

1581 Webster St
San Francisco, CA 94115

Occasion: Dessert after dinner at Suzu.

Green Tea Ice Cream with Nutella Crepe
I have a sweet tooth and I haven't had a sweet crepe in a while, so after dinner at Suzu, we decided to grab dessert here. I've been coming here since I was young and I've always ordered ice cream with nutella. It's either gotten expensive over the years or Genki is just super cheap. I swear I only pay like 4 dollars at genki's, but here it was like 6. It's really just a couple scoops of ice cream and nutella. Both places give me the same satisfaction, but genki on clement is cheaper. This was a good ending to the night. YUMMMY!
